When making online purchases using your payment card, you are increasingly asked to confirm them. The easiest way to do this is with the Nordea ID app.

Many online stores may have asked you to confirm your card purchases recently. The Payment Services Directive (PSD2) instructs card issuers to ensure that, when a card is used to pay online, the cardholder’s identity is strongly authenticated. In practice, a card issuer must offer the cardholder a chance to perform this strong authentication.   

For First Card cards strong authentication means using the Nordea ID app or code calculator, which ensure that paying with a card is more secure than ever before. You can be certain that your payment is secure if you see one of these logos when confirming the payment: Mastercard Identity Check (previously Mastercard SecureCode) or Visa Secure (previously Verified by Visa). 

Activate our secure Nordea ID app

Even if you’re not a Nordea customer, you can obtain our Nordea ID app for authenticating your identity when making card payments online.

This is how you activate the Nordea ID app when you are not a Nordea customer but you have a First Card:

1. Download the Nordea ID app to your mobile device from your app store.
2. Open the Nordea ID app and start the activation by naming your user profile and selecting the country and language.
3. Select the option “I only have a credit card through Nordea”.
4. As the authentication method, select your own bank or a mobile ID and authenticate yourself.
5. Once you have authenticated yourself successfully, the app will show you the phone number to which the activation code of the app will be sent.
6. After having received the activation code, enter it into the app.
7. The activation is now almost complete. You only need to choose a four-digit PIN with which you will confirm your future online purchases in future. The Nordea ID app is now ready to use.

If you can’t activate the Nordea ID app, please call customer service to ensure that you can make secure online purchases.

How to confirm online purchases with the Nordea ID app if you are a customer of another bank than Nordea

1. Open the Nordea ID app.
2. Enter your personal identity number (ddmmyy-xxxx or ddmmyyAxxxx) in the user ID section and press OK.
3. Enter the PIN of your choice.

How to confirm online purchases with the Nordea ID app if you are a Nordea customer

1. Open the Nordea ID app.
2. Enter your personal user ID for Nordea Netbank in the user ID section and press OK.
3. Enter the PIN of your choice.
